Nursing and Health Professions students, start strong with your health-focused community. Your Living-Learning Community Kickoff is your first required Living-Learning Community event during Weeks of Welcome and is designed to help you meet classmates who are preparing to care for people, support wellness, and make an impact in health-related fields.

Who should attend: All first-year Nursing and Health Professions students on campus, whether or not you live in Woodworth.

When and where: Wednesday, August 19, from 4:30–5:30 p.m. outside Woodworth Hall. Use Woodworth Complex off Riverside Ave. for navigation and follow signs or staff directions to the outdoor setup.

Nursing spotlight: If you are studying nursing or pre-nursing, this kickoff is a chance to meet other students beginning the same high-impact path toward patient care, clinical learning, teamwork, resilience, and professional growth.

Health Professions spotlight: If you are studying public health, radiography, respiratory therapy, speech pathology and audiology, dietetics, social work, or another health-related field, this kickoff is a chance to connect with students who are focused on prevention, communication, rehabilitation, nutrition, community care, and helping people live healthier lives.

You’ll meet your Health Professions Academic Peer Mentor, Dhanya Pathangi, and your Nursing Academic Peer Mentors, Mariana Villagomez and Aaron Hatton. You’ll also connect with other first-year students across both communities and enjoy Kona Ice while learning how your LLC can support belonging, well-being, lifelong learning, and academic success.

Symposium for 21st century scholars

Grocery Bingo is a fun and engaging event where Ball State students play bingo to win free groceries. Designed to support students with essential food items, the event fosters community while offering exciting prize opportunities.

The Honors LLC Kickoff will take place immediately following Honors Convocation and is hosted in partnership with the Honors College. Students will help with various needs of the camp - examples of service include, but are not limited to: trail maintenance, gardening, cleaning, painting, raking leaves, picking up sticks/tree limbs, and general outside beautification projects

Students will do some of the following jobs. Sort produce and donations, pack orders for agency partners, weeding and or harvesting garden beds.

Student Volunteers will assist Minnetrista Horticulture Department staff with laying wood chips in the apple orchard as well as in the Community Orchard Garden. Student Volunteers will learn about Minnetrista, these community resources, and the care needed to take maintain them.

This event is designed for new transfer students to stop by the Student Center Starbucks on Friday, August 21 from 10 - 11 a.m. for a free drink and a chance to meet other transfer students in a relaxed setting. Afterwards, check out the poster sale with your fellow transfer students. You can also walk around campus with a returning transfer student to help locate all of your classrooms before the first day of classes.

Kick off the weekend at Popcorn Friday! Stop by for free, freshly popped popcorn and a chance to connect with fellow students, campus partners, and Student Life staff. Whether you’re heading to class or taking a break between activities, Popcorn Friday is a simple way to relax, grab a snack, and enjoy a fun, welcoming campus tradition.

Panelists will share stories of partnership, outline meaningful opportunities for involvement, and highlight best practices for community collaboration. A moderated Q&A will follow the panel. After the session students will be asked to reflect on the opportunities they have in their new home and how they can contribute to the greater community. By the end of this program, students will gain a better understanding of the Muncie community and what it offers.

If Pokemon were real, where would they live? Visit the Rinard Orchid Greenhouse to complete a scavenger hunt of Pokemon inspired by real-life tropical plants in animals. In the Nature Lab, visitors can design their own habitats in a Pokeball (on paper), and complete other Pokemon-inspired activities. In Christy Woods, visitors can search for Pokemon and Pokestops using their Pokemon Go! app.

Each library has its own set of painted rocks, a poster showcasing what to look for, and a site map to guide your search within designated boundaries. If you find a pet rock, return it to the library it came from and claim your prize!
